iPhone may soon replace your passport, driver’s license
After letting you open your auto with an electronic digital ley, Apple is planning to update iPhones with technology that would replace physical files like library cards, driver’s licenses, passports and other documents used for confirmation.
There have been a set of different patent applications that have been submitted, with the title “Supplying Verified Claims of User Identification” report said.
All these patents describe a particular method on how the user could record and transmit their own ID and have it confirmed, though Apple did not really mention that the word iPhone even once.
Rather, the company refers that it could be any part of technology.
“A device implementing a system for using a verified claim of individuality includes a minimum of one processor configured to receive a confirmed claim including data to identify a user of a device,” reads one such application.

According to the patent records, a user will have the ability to use his or her iPhone to transmit a ID, and whether the user is verified, say by the Apple Watch biometrics, then the ID would be confirmed.
On the other hand, the applications were mainly for passports, however, the company has also detailed that it could be used for other identification cards such as driver’s license.
Formerly, Apple has worked on secure ways of presenting government ID, and it has worked together with both German and UK governments to help local identification jobs.
