Heavy rains kill 18 in Japan
Japan: The 18 confirmed deaths were largely in their 60s to 80s, together with nine at town of Hitoyoshi, eight at town of Ashikita, also one in Tsunagi, reports Xinhua news agency.
As flooding and mudslides cut roads and swept off buildings, over 2,000 families in eight municipalities stayed isolated on Sunday morning.

Approximately 4,650 families in Kumamoto prefecture remained without electricity on Sunday afternoon, based on Kyushu Electric Power Co.
