Oracle Corp has held preliminary discussions with TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, also has been seriously considering buying the program’s operations in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Oracle was operating with some US investors who already have a stake in ByteDance, including General Atlantic and Sequoia Capital, the newspaper reported, citing people briefed about the issue.
ByteDance and TikTok did not have a comment on this, while Oracle declined to comment.
According to documented earlier this month which Twitter had approached ByteDance to state interest in obtaining the US operations of TikTok, while Microsoft was the favorite to clinch a deal.
Microsoft has also seriously believed a bid to take over TikTok’s global operations beyond the states it outlined earlier in August.
Microsoft is very interested in purchasing TikTok at Europe and India, in which it had been recently banned from the Indian government after border tensions with China, ” the newspaper said.
However, ByteDance is compared to the idea of selling any resources outside those from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to the report.
US President Donald Trump last week ordered ByteDance to divest the US operations of the video program within 90 days, ramping up pressure on the Chinese firm over concerns regarding the safety of the personal data it handles.
