US, 20 Jul: Twitter says the hacker targeted 130 High Profile people accounts. The hackers were able reset the passwords of 45 of those accounts. The July 17 assault broke into the Twitter accounts of world Leaders, celebrities and technology moguls in a few of the very high-profile security breaches in recent years.

“We are embarrassed, we are disappointed, and more than anything, we’re sorry. We know that we have to work to regain your confidence, and we’ll support all efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Twitter stated from the blog post.

The attackers sent out tweets in the accounts of these Public figures, offering to send $2,000 for each $1,000 delivered to an anonymous Bitcoin address. It highlighted a major flaw with the service countless People have come to rely on as a critical communications tool.

The San Francisco-based company stated in a blog post Saturday that for up to eight of those accounts the attackers also downloaded the account’s information through the “Your Twitter Data” instrument. None of those eight were confirmed account, Twitter stated, adding that it’s contacting the owners of the affected accounts.

While this attack didn’t appear go further than the Bitcoin Ruse — at least for today — it raises concerns about Twitter’s ability to secure its support against election misinformation and interference ahead of U.S. presidential elections.
